    .308 cast load data

I just recently acquired a savage model 11 .308 and I plan on shooting a lot of cast boolits out of it looking for some first hand advice of peoples favorite cast loads. I am going to be using the lee 312-160r mold tumble lubed and gas checked to .309. The powders I have available are imr4895, h4198, cfe223, tac, imr4198, blue dot which I know is mostly for reduced loads not really a choice but I figured I would throw it out there. So please let me know any loads you really like using the powders I have available to me please. Thank you everyone very much.

Why reinvent the wheel? There are already at least two current threads on this very topic and scads of information/data in the 'stickies' and archives.

    donovansn585,

Try this link for searching the forum..
    Way better:

I haven't shot grease groove bullets out of my 308's so I can't help you there..
One thing though I am betting that your bullet sized to .309" is going to be to small..
If you are serious about shooting cast then you should make a "impact slug or pound slug" of your throat area so that you will know the exact size to size your bullet..
There is a sticky above by goodsteel that explain's how to do it..

one of the most accurate loads I have ever shot has been 28 grs of 4895 and a filler using a fairly soft brisance large rifle primer like the federal 210.
[boolit weights from 150 to 180 grs ]
I got away from using the load because it was ridiculously boring.

Thinking about buying a Savage .308 myself, but from what I am reading hear on castboolts, a .309 sizer is too small, I maybe need a .311 sizer? Has Lee discontinued those? Also which Lee factory crimp die will work with a .311 sizer in .308 cases? I have a Lee 160 grain mold for 7.62 x 39 boolit, will these be too light for a 1 in 10 twist .308 barrel? Have not shot cast in a rifle yet, hope these are not dumb questions. Thanks, exile
