    that perfect shape

so, for a 3sb/3sn/.25-.35%Copper alloy, what do you think would be the best choice for hollowpoint pins, short and fat, long and skinny, or other? I was thinking a hp shaped like a martini glass would work good ( short sect. of wide opening, then a longer "stem" of maybe .10 dia ending in a rounded point), if you can picture what I mean? and do you think this alloy should be heat treated or quenched for 2100fps?

I was almost afraid to click on this, thinking about that Redhead thread! Can't help on the original question as I don't have any HP molds. Just being a smart aleck this morning, sorry!

that has been happening in my soft dirt backstop, so I was worried, even though dirt doesn't translate to deer.

speer used to make semi jacketed hp bullets( i have a few,) that are shaped like a martini glass. I think a HP that has easy lines will mushroom uniformly. But in my view, the HP pin must surrender your bullet easily without deforming the tip.

For high vel, shallow cup points have worked best for me. I have not tried anything over 1500fps, but deeper/wider designs show fragmenting above 1250fps or so with 20-1 alloy. Wetpack or gel test, dirt is a poor substitute.

Don't make the mistake of hard hollow points. The nose just fractures and fragments. You want the mushroom like in fredj338's photo (post #8)
I like 50-50 clip on wheel weights and pure lead . Range scrap will yield the same results. Air cooled . No water hardening or heat treating.
They will mushroom nicely. Too hard is a waste of time, just as soon shoot a solid sans HP .

yep, that's what the copper is for, it toughens it up, I will see if I can get good accuracy air cooled, but honestly, I think I have my alloy where it will expand some even when hardened, at anything above about 1850fps
