    What fancy coating is this?

As we all do I am sure. I pick up anything shiny I find on the range. Sometimes it's unfired bullets. I deconstruct them and melt the lead and process the brass.

Had a 38spl find last week (actually 6 unfired. Mixed head stamp). At first thought they were jacketed. Upon closer inspection. It has to be some kind of coating. Hiteck?

    I love the color.

It abraded very easily and there is a clear casting seam. Makes me think not a commercial boolit.

Anyone know what this is? It's shiny and looks very close to the extreme plated bullet I put next to it. The plated bullet would not abrade on 200 grit like the 38 boolit.

Interesting... if it is copper plated, is is REALLY thin. Scraped off very easily with some sand paper (like 2 passes) versus the Xtreme, which was hardly bothered... Well, I guess I won't find a fancy copper colored coating lol. I WILL keep finding and deconstructing people's cast aways... have gained some interesting findings on crimping techniques and how much they vary (both good and bad haha)

you can build your own home made plating bath.
obviously it doesn't need to be all that thick.

It could be a powder coated bullet using something like Eastwood Copper penny.

I recently saw a youtube video of someone who tumble coated with it and it seems to stick. Bullets look fairly close to jacketed. Plan to order some and give it a whirl as I prefer the jacketed look over the current green and jet black I am currently using for powder coat. Although the jet black is nice and glossy.
