    Glock 19 Gen 5

My LGS had a Gen 5 Glock 19 in. Overall I think they made a few enhancements but nothing earth shattering.

IIRC it had a new barrel. The muzzle was countersunk. The slide end was cut to give a smoother entry into a holster. The finger grooves are gone and the mag well is flared with a small cut out to grasp the magazine if stuck. There is a ambi slide release and the slide finish is supposedly updated and improved.

Overall some nice changes. I didn't pick it up but it was nice.

Next time by the shop, look in the barrel and see what kind of rifling it has.

I think I've read that they've switched to traditional rifling with gen5.

When I looked st the barrel, it looked like a more pronounced polygonal rifling. Almost like a hybrid. Their marketing calls it a "Marksman" barrel.

Even since the Glock pistol hit the streets, and CSI tried to match one particular bullet to one particular pistol, the CSI kids discovered that usually they couldn't do it. Ever look down a clean one? Shiny, look like glass. They'd rather we didn't talk about it.

This new barrel is still polygonal rifling, but they've added a funny little land on each side of the main land. More better to ID with. Thus, "Marking" barrels.

It would be a very good thing if they prove to the world that this new barrel is more accurate. I'd buy one.
YouTube will have fun testing this one.

I hope they get these new pistols on the Blue Label program, I have coupon collecting dust.

The Gen 5 guns are also only Two Pin style guns. as opposed to the "Three Pin versions of the Gen 23 and 4 guns.

The Ambi Slide Stop will excite lefties but I don't understand why the Mag Release isn't Ambi or a least reversible. That would have been fairly easy to do.

I still like the Gen III's the best. Plus that they are the only ones on the CA list.

I don't understand why they didn't make it an ambi mag release as well.

This sort of thing always makes me giggle. Eli Whitney's whole goal of mass production was to reduce production cost by jigging up to make each type of part so like the others that you could take one part, from any gun, at any time in the production run, and have it be totally indistinguishable from the same part from any of the other guns. Now that we've gotten so good at it that you can't even tell the BORES apart, they want us spend more money on production to make our guns LESS consistent.

I want to go check them out myself.
    Currently I have a gen 2 and a gen 3 glock 23.
Might sell the gen 3 to get the 5.
I really like the fact they don't have finger grooves any more.
The other changes don't really do much for me.

With the LEOs around me making the switch to 9mm I might need to have at least one 9mm glock.
Don't like being hammered by the Cast Boolits Staff, then don't be a nail.
The rules are simple to follow.

Yep, looks like an older Gen 1/2 frame with a Gen 4 angle and back straps. But with a flared magwell, which I DO NOT like.

I handled one model 19 and 17 and I do like the Gen 4 checking on it, like the 42/43. But the flared magwell had me picking the 17 over the 19. It's not a competition flare, but was still noticeable by me.

I'm thinking a Gen 5 34 would be sweet though!

The new Gen5 Glocks don't make me want to buy one and I like and own Glocks. Basically no Gen1-Gen4 parts working on the Gen5 is a deal breaker for me along with the ambi slide stop. Just too many negatives and a short few positives on the new Gen5 for me. Seems like they changed stuff just for the sake of changing stuff. Like the new firing pin and firing pin hole in the slide, a waste.

Glock is still hammer forging their barrels. The new rifling basically looks like a slightly more squared off version of what they have been making for years.

Here are some side to side pics showing some of the differences. http://www.recoilweb.com/inside-the-...-5-129141.html

    Glock 19 Gen 5

Hey, let's make it so parts don't interchange. That will make our customers happy. I know it doesn't effect Glock. And I'm sure the aftermarket companies are loving it. I'm neither a Glock lover or hater. But this decision seems kind of ridiculous. I'm sure the fanboys are slobbering all over themselves.
