Bluin is a little spotty in places when you look at it under bright light . overall a nice classic rifle. That's a nice looking piece. Wish i had the extra funds for it. As usual the timing is terrible. Story of my life lately. lol - CASTER
In regards to shooting safety.Until you are ready to fire, keep your booger hook off the bang switch.

What a nice candidate for a .35 Whelen conversion.

I've had my Mark X 30-06 since 1988. Love it.

If that front sight is drilled and tapped, will there be enough thickness at the screw after boring for a 35??

Probably not at .550. You really need .125 on both sides so .358 +.125+.125 = .608
So the question is where on the barrel does it measure .608? You could cut it there if it was past the sight and if you still had plenty of length on the barrel. 21" or even 20" is fine for .35 Whelen from what I have read. Going longer has diminishing returns.

At 19 inches the barrel measures .610 at 20 inches .600 I thought it would make a great 338-06. But I ended up sending jes a browning a bolt instead

Back in the 80's, I bought three of these barreled actions for my sons. I stocked them in very nicely figured American Black Walnut. I quickly found out they shot very very well. I had no problem with getting them under an inch at 100 yds, and frequently they would shoot 1/2". My sons have used them every deer season since that time and the rifles have never missed a beat. If I needed another rifle, I'd be all over this one.

I had 1 in .270 that needed rebluing. Left it with my gunsmith till he did a batch of hotblue. Instead he sold it, went bankrupt. Never even shot it …. He should be thankful I found Jesus!

I had one in 7mm Mauser had to sell it along with every thing else back in 91 after my first surgery ( first of many, many) when I could no longer work to feed my family. It's been a long road back and Unfortunately I don't have the funds or I'd take it in a heartbeat! Great rifle and a great price! Good luck with the sale. Oh yah if I happen to win the lottery you will promptly receive a pm from yours truly
