Getting my cast boolits ready for hunting this fall

I had been trying all kinds of loads for my rifles using combinations of powder, boolits, primers, etc.
and here I've got some results that may be able to do the job:

H&R single shot rifle in 444 Marlin: 310gr Lee RF, GC over 13.3 gr of Red Dot and WLP primer


Browing BLR rifle in .358 Win: 162gr Lee SWC, GC, over 18gr of 2400 with WLP primer


H&R Single shot rifle in 357 Maximum: 162gr Lee SWG, GC over 19gr of 2400 with CCI-400 primer

I am still working on the 357 Max but this was my best group with it so far.

Looks like all you need is some meat to get in the bullet's way and you will set. Good shooting pard. I had a handi in 30/30, 45/70 and 308. The 30/30 was the only one I could get to shoot consistently. Shot cast bullets the whole time in it.

Not too long ago my groups were shotgun pattern size. I had been reading good articles and good advice in this forum and finally I can say I can make good use of my own home-brewed cast boolits.
Now, if I can only make a good connection with a deer (doe or buck) I would be able to eat some fresh venison this year.

That's some good groups there! Good shootin', and even more importantly, good testing. Even a newbie (relatively speaking) CAN get good results if he just keeps trying new and different things. Doing that is an education in itself, usually. And you're not the first to get good results from listening to the guys here, either. I've been reloading for 55 years, and casting for over 40, and I STILL keep learning stuff here! So learning to shoot and load for cast isn't something you learn, and learn all there is to know. It'll always be a continuing process, and the more you do it, the better you get. When you start noticing and responding to the "little things," you're really beginning to learn stuff. And like I said, the process never ends. I darn sure wouldn't want to be a deer in front of any of your guns, but I like that .444 grooup best of all. After all, you may have to shoot through some small opening to get your quarry, and it seems those situations are the ones where it involves the biggest deer you've ever seen! Good luck, and show us some pix when you get one.

That sounds like at least a Trapdoor Springfield .45-70 load. I think it'll work for anything you're likely to shoot with it.

For what it's worth, I found IMR 4320 to work great in my .3598 with the RCBS 200 grain FP. Worked great on the one deer I shot with it.

I used to have Chrony's to measure velocities but I accidentally shot my Chrony some time ago and I have not bought one since them (not the first time it happened)

I tried that load after I saw a post here where it work for someone else. I tried 13.0gr Red dot and fine tune it to 13.3gr with the Lee 310gr FN, GC.
Another good load was with 13.5gr Unique but I guess I will settle with the red dot.
