What is the rear sight pin size? (I don't have any to measure).
What,if anything can be used as a replacement? Nail etc.?
Thanks-Will

A piece of drill rod would probably work well. If you have a numbered drill set, you could use that as a gauge.
You can make a pin out of a Nail and use a Poor Mans Lathe to turn it down to the correct Diameter.
(Poor Mans Lathe= A drill motor or drill press and a file or Wet and dry sandpaper to do the final sizing and polishing)
Trust me, when I first started doing rifles, I used the same method to make many a replacement pin.
I still do from time to time.
You dont need to measure, you just have to file to the proper size.
In addition to the above, I have drilled the hole clean and left the drill bit in, as if it were the pin pushed up the shank and past the "cutting area of the drill". Then just cut it off & finished it. Gives a perfect fit every time.
I also save old worn or broken drill bits for making Hardened pins for just this type of thing.
But the rear sight pin on a MN does not need to be a hardened pin.
And making a replacement , rather than what was suggested above about drilling out the sight and base , then cutting off a drill bit, leaves the parts in the original condition so things like Scout mounts can be used without modification.
But that suggestion is a good fix if you dont care about a minor modification to the parts.
A # 32 drill bit is .116
Thanks to all.The rifle has been severely modified.Archangel stock, barrel cut to 24".Rear sight MIA.Plan is to fill the holes and remove base.Grind and sand to get a clean barrel and re-finish.Add a muzzle brake. This thing has a timney trigger and a millet scope.
The muzzle slugs at .313,and later I will do a chamber cast. But I want to wait till the barrel is off and I have gathered all my tools.
Like I told my son (his rifle),I would have picked a different receiver.

Use a tight fitting roll pin. Might need two if the base is wide.
