Lee 452-230 or 452-255 for colt revolver & lever?

I can't decide which mold to get to use in a Smith Wesson colt revolver and a Henry 45 Colt lever action.

Is the lee 452-230 better than the 452-255?

I have a nice Lyman 200gr swc but read that's too light for a Colt round.

I'll be hi tek coating these too.

It's my understanding that the std load for 45 Colt used the 255 gr bullet. I chose the Lee 452-200 RF for plinking, but it does a good job on woodchucks through my Henry BBS. It also works fine in my RBH, although it doesn't get shot very often. Both the Lee 452-200 RF and 255 RF have the crimp groove in the same location, so it's difficult to distinguish one load from the other, after loading. My cast boolits are loaded as cast, uncoated.

200 isn't too light for the 45 colt.
they might impact the target a bit lower but they will shoot good groups if you click up the rear sight.
I use 165's in my fixed sight USFA's and they impact just below the top of the front sight at 25 yds or so, not a big deal I just hold in the middle of the tin cans.

I use a 200gr boolit in my 45LC's all of the time for plinking. Like the above poster, I also use a Lee 200 RF usually backing it with Promo or sometimes Unique. Who told you it was too light?

The 45 Colt is my all time favorite caliber, it's so versatile, you can load anything from 165gr to over 300gr slugs. My general purpose practice rounds are the Lee 200 gr flat point with about 5gr of about any fast burning powder, I usually use 700X just cause I have allot of it and it burns clean at low pressure. My more serious rounds are the Lee 250 with 8gr hp 38, or 12 to 13 gr of HS6.

These loads will cover most anything you need a handgun to do. If you need more Lee makes a 300gr version that works very well in Ruger only loads and will take down anything in the lower 48.

What is your intended purpose for your 45 Colt?

I'm more of a magnum sort of guy, BUT... my friends ask for 452-255-RF
so often that I bought a 6 banger to speed up the process.
