    Need top punch recommendation

We have acquired a .44 Magnum in the family, I'm now casting for.

I have purchased a Lee Precision 429-240-2r round nose bullet mold.
    I'm using a Lyman 450 Lube/sizer, with a RCBS .430" sizing die.

I'm having an issue with the available top punches I have on hand. The RN top punch I use for my Lyman 358311 .38 cal mold is too small, badly marring the top of the .44 bullet, and the RN top punch I use for my Lyman 225 grain RN .45 ACP bullet is too big to use with the RCBS sizing die.

Any recommendations on what top punch I can order to properly fit?

    Kevin

Since you have the 45 RN punch you are probably using that for another boolit. Get another, fill it with hot glue, and put one of your Lee 429-240 boolits in it, well waxed on the nose. Voila, a nose punch. For a more permanent fix use a permanent epoxy.

Have you checked this cross reference chart? You might find something close.

The problem with using a top punch for a larger caliber in a smaller caliber is the punch may strike the size die before pressing the bullet deep enough into the die.

    Thanks for that link!

I'm finally getting a Lyman 450 I bught years ago going, and had been wondering if such a cross reference existed.
