    dragon813qt,

LOOKS like a REALLY NICE rifle to me. = I'm beginning to think we need to form a JES FAN CLUB.
(I'm about to send another .30-06 rifle to Jesse to reformat to .400B-WI.)

My Model 760 which is now a 9.3x62 Mauser is GREAT but I want a BIG-bore for REALLY BIG game. = A well-aimed 400 grain bullet at 2000FPS should STOP most anything, anywhere on Earth out to 200+M.

    yours, tex

Warf- that is a steel Weaver K2.5 of 1970s vintage. I like it. Clear &fast. I won it on ebay for $75.
Google Gary Fellers for vintage scopes.

Texas by God- I ordered a Bushnell Elite 3500 2-7x 32mm when I ordered the bullet.

    waksupi,

I would guess the rifle will need .360" but will know when the rifle gets back.

Good choice on the scope; mine likes .358" as seen on the plate; yours will shoot great. Savages can be made pretty with Boyd's wood.
    I'm excited for you.

It didn't start that way. I had Tim Malcolm completely restore it for me. Turnbull did the color case hardening on the lever. . Here is a before pic.

beautiful gun,now is that a single shot, falling block style, or is the mag in the stock, and do they still make those?

    Jess and 358 Win

Has a rotary magazine in the receiver. Unfortunately they stopped making them many years ago. Mine started out as a lowly 99E in 308. Makes a perfect donor rifle because the E, Economy, models aren't very desirable. Cheap wood, non jeweled bolt and a steel rotor w/ no counter. But it's not a 99C, which has a detachable magazine and is the least desirable model. At least for collectors. Pick up one in 308 and send it to JES to have it rebored to 358 while you still can. Prices keep climbing and good guns are becoming harder to find.

This is why you pay Turnbull what they ask

Slug the throat..slugging the bore won't tell you anything you need to know....(Google "pound cast")

The best boolit for gun is one that fits the throat...

You'll be happy with Jesse's work.

    warf73,

My first .358 rifle was a Sako Finn-Wolf that I bought "for peanuts" with a broken stock at the RAFB Rod & Gun Club in 1970.
I had it restocked in French walnut by the late Klaus Fuchs, the local/noted stock-maker in Miesau, BRD & found that it hits European Red Deer like an 8# sledgehammer & W/O "beating you to death". Thus, I believe that you will be very PLEASED with your JES-remodeled rifle for any woods-hunting out to 200+M..

True on the 99E's Dragon- the ones with stamped-checkered birch stocks were UGLY. But they will clean up nice. There was an older 99E Pre war I think and they were NICE.

My new 358 should be here in a couple of weeks. Of course I had it built. Rem 700 trued stainless action, krieger barrel and B&C medalist stock. Hope it's a tack driver. Been about 2 years or more accumulating parts and waiting while at the smith.
