Looking for a 147g, Grooveless Mold

Putting this here as it is more of a "can you help me contact" vs a general "WTB" ask.

I'm looking for a 147ish grain 9mm mold. Grooveless to use with PC. Six cavity. Aluminium. I've tried contacting Mi-Hec a few times, but am assuming they are busy with the move or something. Tried their website as well as PM through here.

Weight doesn't have to be exact, but needs to be heavy enough to operate a PCC with 8.5" barrel and still subsonic as I'll be shooting them suppressed. Mi-Hec is the only one I've seen making grooveless aluminum molds.

• Cavities - min. four would like six
• Prefer aluminum due to weight
• Conical or long, round nose for easy feeding
• Grooveless for PC
• Prefer using Lee handles but not critical
• Needs to drop .357 MINIMUM with 95/3/2
• Prefer 147g for load data, but +/- 5g or so should be fine
• Needs to be cost effective. I can't spend $150 for it.

Accurate has 5cav, close enough. You can also submit changes to any of Tom's molds & he will accommodate at no add'l. charge. You are generally not getting quality cheap. So if you want 5-6cav, it is gonna cost you a bit more than good ole Lee.
FWIW, a bullet doesn't have to be grooveless for PC. Also note, a smooth bullet will yield slightly higher pressures so don't just plug & play w/o working the loads back up.

NOE has a 133 and a 135gr grooveless 9mm mold listed. You could also have LBT cut your mold to your specs as well.

NOE has a 133 and a 135gr grooveless 9mm mold listed. You could also have LBT cut your mold to your specs as well.

Interesting. I'm not sure 133/135g will be enough to guarantee subsonic out of the 8.5" barrel. I could be wrong. Thoughts?

@fred- yep, figuring I'll be spending 2-3x "Lee Dollars", but that is ok. What got this started was the 25% off sale at Mi-hec. $85 incl. shipping for a six cavity mold looks good. Good to know about the pressures. Any time I use a new bullet or powder I always start with a minimum and work up. I've never found the max loads to be the most accurate and recently found that with Titegroup and Lee 356-120 TC the minimum was the most accurate.

I've got the 147Y in a 5 cavity from Accurate in aluminum, awesome mold.

titegroup will be difficult to work with when using a heavy bullet in that small case.
it does not like small spaces.
and it really gets weird in small spaces with heavy weights on top of it.

Good to know. I've also got some Bullseye, Power Pistol and H-38 to choose from. Have been thinking to pick up some Clays and True Blue. True Blue is highly recommended by a mod on another board. Of the above first three, which would you pick?

Can you elaborate on "gets weird"? Just curious.

it pressure spikes, and isn't predictable.
[I blew the grips off a pistol by a .1gr increase after seeing almost no pressure signs at the step before, another.1gr step bulged the frame and blew the case out at the web]
yes I meant to destroy the pistol and kept going but the final step was backing the load down and increasing the seating depth ,that done far more damage than just increasing the powder.

clay's is high pressure too and burns like flash paper.
that makes both of them perfect for slow heavy projectiles in larger cases, since they ignite easily and can be spread out when doing so.

I would go with bulls-eye of the ones you listed.

true blue is a very good powder, it's similar to unique [slightly faster] only without all of uniques 'problems', unfortunately those 'problems' are what gives it, it's uniqueness..
but it would be worth looking at for sure.

OK. No Titegroup in small cases with big bullets. Got it.

And by "problems" for Unique, I assume you are referring to it being declared "dirty" and "poor metering"? I've not used it. I have a couple pounds I'm saving for some gallery loads for my Mosin when I get around to that.

yep it burns dirty because it burns the full length of the barrel.
even in a rifle barrel your most likely only getting a 95% burn.
in stuff like the 41,44,45colt [at 8.5+grs] it's right at home because of the case shape and pressure zone your using it in.
in the 45 acp it gives a nice soft recoil impulse but you'll see sparks as the case is expelled since the powder is still burning.
bulls-eye is similar but not as retarded in the burn characteristics, plus it has a higher nitro content. so does a much better job.
