A couple of my favorite lead slingers

Here's a couple or 3 of my sixguns that keep me busy casting bullets and stuffing casings. Might post a few others when (if?) I get some more of my pics off of Photobucket.

    S&W model 28-2, 4"

    Pre model 27 5-screw 6"

Ruger 3-screw flattop .44, cut to 4 5/8", cylinder frame color-cased, steel Old Army gripframe, locking base pin, mesquite grip panels.

Love the mesquite grips on the flat top. Heck, love everything about that Ruger, and I'm a Smith guy at heart. Thanks for sharing.

Nice looking sixguns, congratulations! A 4" model 28 was one of my very first handguns way back in 1967, bought in new in the box for $93 in Sherman, Texas. Shot thousands of rounds through that gun, mostly cast & used it on turtles, frogs, snakes, possums, armadillos, raccoons, rabbits, skunks, ground squirrels, rock chucks & a couple of alligator gar. With the Ray Thompson GC HP loaded hot in a 38 special case in would almost vaporize a cottontail. Did quite a bit of long range shooting out of the top of Dub Carney's barn just out of Whitesboro, Texas in the late 60's.

Just like my old friend Sixshot, I too had a Smith 28, the generation however escapes me. What doesn't escape me is what a shooter it was. If I could get the sights on it, it was toast. Like a complete idiot I traded it for a prettier model 27 which turned out to be a turd. I actually made that mistake several times before I learned my lesson. Sometime later I came across a Colt Trooper .357 6" that is one of the absolute most accurate sixguns I have ever seen. I wouldn't trade it for a new Freedom Arms.

Excellent taste. All three of them, but that 3 screw color cased flattop with mesquite grips... Skeeter must be looking down at you with an approving smile.

Any plans for that M28 to have a drill job at the big house?

    I got plenty .44s, including a 4" 24-3, so I think the 28 stays as-issued.
