    Range Closures for Lead Reclamation

    Has anyone face this before

Chester Rod and Gun Club Logo
Club members approved a lead reclamation project for our outdoor ranges at the July Members Meeting. That work has now been scheduled with the contractor, who is fully licensed and highly experienced in this specialized work. The scope of work includes digging out the top layer of sand from the primary berms, sifting it to separate out bullets, bullet fragments and small stones, and returning the sifted sand to the berms. Some range structures, such as target rails, will have to be removed during this work.

All outdoor ranges, with the exception of the Woodland Sporting Clays Range and the Outdoor Archery Range, will be closed for the duration of this work. The closure starts on Monday, August 28th, and will run for approximately a week. It may be shorter or it may be longer. The work can only be conducted on completely dry sand, so rain during this time period will extend the completion date. The closure status will be regularly updated on the club's Calendar of Events and in a special section on the club's web site "home page".

Please accept our apologies for the relatively short notice. The contractor has clients nationwide and has limited flexibility in scheduling the work. The dates chosen were the best available, so as to avoid having the ranges closed leading up to hunting season, when many members want to sight in their rifles, and our ranges are very busy. Scheduling later in the fall runs the risk of more adverse weather. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. This project is very important for our club to be proactively environmentally responsible.

They did something similar at our club. But they took the top layer of dirt and ran it through a machine to shift out all but shot & bullets. He worked at night though. The club ended up getting a thousands of dollars from it and it looks good to the EPA
