T/C Compass and 5R Rifling. Anytihing I should know?

Just got 2, a .270 and a 30-06, on close out at Gander Mountain for $165 each after rebate

How does the 5R rifling react to cast? Anyone have experience with either the T/C or 5R? Anything I should know about it?

5r is what most bench rest and long range match shooters use.

it's a copy of the rifling used in the 7.7 jap rifles, which is a copy of the old Lee-Metford rifling.

treat them like a Marlin 30-30 and they'll shoot fine.
they'll shoot jacketed real good I built my 7X57 ICL hunting rifle with a Douglas 5-R barrel and it will stack them in on top of each other with hunting bullets [hornady interlocks] and loads [2900fps] no problem.

No. Just shoot it. They are not "close outs" the Compass is still made, just make sure it's been thru the recall.

I had a T/C Venture 30-06 with 5R rifling, it was a tack driver! Even with factory loads (Remington 150 gr Core-Lokt) it would shoot all shots touching at 100 yds. I shot primarily two cast boolt loads in it; 13 gr of Red Dot and a 311041 and 20 gr of 2400 with the same boolit, 1.5" @ 100 yds. Use a Lyman "M" die to expand and flare the case necks and you'll be fine!

I meant that location of Gander Mt is closing down and they have everything on clearance not that the rifle is a "close out" or anything.

Thanks for the answers. My intention is to set up the 30-06 for long range after testing with cast as it comes factory with a threaded barrel. I'm going to try and prove that the old '06 can still get it done to all the 6.5 Creedmoor fanatics.
