    Calling Wisconsin Members!

Hi everyone. I just moved up to Madison Wisconsin to pursue a Master's Degree at UW Madison. I've been in the area a couple weeks now and I am looking for a range to shoot at. So far I've found everything in the area to have limited facilities, limited hours, or have a membership cap. I was wondering if there were any members that lived in my area that could help me out with the local shooting scene around here.

I'm looking for a rifle range at least 100 yards, and a pistol range in the 25 yard neighborhood.

I am also interested in whatever competition there is to offer. Im partial to IDPA and Two-Gun

Thanks in advance for the help everyone!

Uhmmm...you're not gonna find anything in the immediate area of Madison 'cause that's, maybe, the bluest (socialist) locale in the entire state. You'll probably need to go outside of Dane County but there used to be a pretty decent private club somewhere around Sun Prairie. Never shot there but one of my nephews was a member when he lived out that way. Your best bet might be to check with the DNR for public range locations.

Good range up in Spooner. Bit of a drive from Madison though.

    Madison, you say?
    I'm sorry to read it.
Madison is our own little slice of San Francisco right here in Wisconsin.
With all of the state government employees, university employees and snowflake students, Madison attracts leftists like dog piles attract flies.
Local politics and many of the local people are strongly anti-gun.
You would probably do yourself a favor by keeping your gun ownership and shooting activities as discreet as possible.

I don't know the Madison area well - can't say if there are any local clubs or ranges but I kinda doubt it.
I think you're going to have to drive a distance to get a place to shoot.
Winnequah Gun Club at Lodi is pretty nice but their web site says they're not accepting new members at this time. They ARE accepting applications for the waiting list, for what it's worth.

The farther away from Madison to the east, north, or west you travel the better the likelihood of small local clubs. I know of a few but they're all fifty miles from you or even more. I can't speak for the area south of Madison, don't know it well.

Google is your friend - most clubs have a web site and an inquiry explaining your situation might get a favorable response.

    Good luck!

I can vouch for the Berlin Conservation Club but that's an hour and a half from Madison. 10 dollar membership, 2 dollar range fee. Ripon has a gun club too that has more competition (including IDPA) and some more variation in their rifle and handgun ranges. Membership is more (60) but they are CMP affiliated and they might not have a range fee.The BCC is more shotgun centric in their competition. Their pistol and rifle ranges are there and certainly adequate and fun but no real competition.
