    Thoughts on Hodgdon HS-6

Tried doing a search and came up with nothing so I will ask.

I have been using Titegroup,HP-38,and Bullseye in my 9mm,45acp,and 38 Special with decent to good results. Curious about HS-6 mainly for 38 Special basically for more case volume. Will HS-6 work in 38 special and how bulky is it compared to the other powders I have been using?

    Thanks!

HS_6 will work fine in 38 Special. Lots of data available on the Hodgdon data site. As far as bulk, I can't answer on that one.

Haven't tried it in my 38, but hs-6 is my go-to full power 45 powder. Also rocks in my 45 hi-point. Matched blue dot velocity and much cleaner.
Very fine flattened ball, meters well, a warm 9 grain load is between 1/2 and 2/3 in a ac p case.

In the mid 90's I bought a 3lb metal can of it and 38 is what it was shot in, although the can was labeled Winchester 540 same thing. IIRC it came from one of the Johnson brothers at HiTech.

I found good accuracy and nice case fill with 44 Mag.It seemed kinda smokey until I got higher in pressure.

According to load data sheets, you need more HS6 than most other powders. Some powders like red dot use only half as much powder than HS6 for the same velocity. That may help some people to not double load their ammo. However a 38 Special will hold a lot of powder so I don't know if it applies to that case.
