Rufurbished Ruger Police Service Six

Got this at a good price, knew it would need work.

Main color (Cerakote) is called Multicam Green and the cylinder, cylinder release and hammer pivot are Green Beret Green (it's a real dark green that can be seen a lot better in natural light).

Complete refurb, replaced grips, the front sight, some internals that needed it, polished the hammer and trigger, smoothed the top of the hammer strut, polished the sear and hammer notches. Didn't try to remove all the pitting, the Cerakote will protect it, plus it will be someones working gun.

It's ready to rock and roll again.

Yes how does it shoot, and how well does the cerakote hold up to gas cutting on the cylinder. This has been a problem in the past with polymer coatings on cylinders not holding up. Teflon always has held up, but it is butt ugly.

Have not shot it yet but the bore and the cylinders were in perfect condition so it should shoot very good. Cerakote holds up well to the gas cutting, it is ceramic based so it resists it pretty good. The darker colors may lighten up some where the flame/gas hits it but it still retains its corrosion ability. I've been doing Cerakote for about 10 years and haven't had any complaints from my customers about this.

Other than a few basic colors, Cerakote is done with a spray gun as it is a 2 part mix. The gun must be prepped thoroughly and abrasive blasted and then degreased again to get the coating to adhere properly. Then it gets cured in an oven to harden it correctly.

I have a real admiration for the Ruger DA Six series revolvers. They are the size of a S&W K-frame with the strength of an L-frame. They shoot well and are nearly indestructible.

How does Cerakote hold up under holster wear, especially the sharp edges ? That is a nice looking handgun but I am partial the Ruger Six Series anyway.

I noticed you took off the rubber grips. I have rubber grips for mine but seem to always go back to the original ones. All the rubber grips change the balance and are to large for my hands.

I agree with oldhenry about one thing, would have been a nice time to make a round butt.

Dave, Cerakote holds up very well to holster wear. Cerakote is a 2 part, ceramic based coating. You have to mix a hardener with the liquid and then cure it in an oven to get the best results. Once done, it has very good abrasion resistance.

I like the original wood grips on the Six series, but Ruger did put specific types of Pachmayrs on some of the Six series guns (typically the Police Service Six and the Speed Six). I just don't care for the larger Pachmayr Presentations on the Sixes, they seem to make them look out of balance.

I'll have to keep the round butt mod in mind the next time I get a basket case to play with, thanks.
