    Military magazines

I had a friend die tragically. He had an extensive collection of military rifles. Hundreds of magazines were stored at random in several places. I spent 5 hours matching up mags with rifles today. I ended up with magazines with no rifles and rifles with no magazines. Does anyone know of a website with a sketch of magazines and what they fit? I think all were .223 or .308 or 7.62 X39.

Post pictures of the magazines and we'll try to help you sort it out.

Sorry for the loss of your friend. Hopefully some of the knowledgeable people here can help you match up the magazines to guns.

It will take a while to get back and takes some pictures. One magazine which I think is .308 is very wide and would not fit in an AR-10, M1A or Sar8. Something to think about until I get pictures.

Most 308 magazines are about the same width (unsurprisingly) - if it's very wide I'd suspect
.303 brit, 7.62x54, or other rimmed cases.
But not impossible take the Tigr (Dragunov) 308 (thick plastic)
    vs metal 7.62x54

Rather than redesign the rifle they just made a magazine to take
up the slack in the mag well.

Even in the Dragunov 7.62x54 there are differences

Norinco NDM86 and SVD magazine baseplates

    303 British Bren magazines

If it's for a rimmed or tapered cartridge it will have a curve to it as well.
like the AK-47 for the tapered 7.62x39 cartridge.
