Non reflective finish for lam stock??

Got the boyds th striped and bleached. Now to colorize and finish. Have done wood before but not a lam. Like "oil" finish on my hunting guns. Have done gloss urethane on clay target and bench rest types with fancy figured wood. So:

What a good non reflective finish for the lam???

Insight on what to do as well as what not to do helpful. Thanks, 10

Put enough Custom Oil finish on to fill the grain then after a couple of days rub it down with Rotten stone . Put Linseed oil on a rag with the Rotten stone and make it as flat as you want. This finish is very forgiving and you can coat it every 24 hours until you get the look you want. I always took 0000 steel wool to the stock between coats. Looks like a linseed oil hand rubbed stock.

I have used conservitors wax, used to clean up old wooden stuff like violins and such. Takes the luster out and leaves the wood clean and protected. Applied on the original finish. I have used this to give some milsurps a lusterless finish after refinishing with tung oil.
P.S. there is a product I have used in the past called tung oil sealer, the directions stated it can be mixed in proper proportions to produce a low luster finish.

Permanent matte, or only while hunting? A heavy coat of paste wax, not buffed, will provide a temporary matte look while hunting, when not hunting buff it out.

I just put 9 coats of Tru oil on my .300 Weatherby gray lam last summer. Used crocus cloth to put it on with. Left a satin finish it looks much better then the recoil checked hard finish Weatherby put on it.
