W 230 p powder

I have a can of W 230 p can that be used in a 9mm? Looks like old powder.

You're gonna need some old manuals. It was replaced by W231. The data is not interchangeable. And the internet rumors about why it was replaced by W231 are quite interesting.

I did a little research and looks like it was used in 45 acp. I have a lot of unique but it doesn't meter well in my rcbs powder dump when it get down around 3-4 grains. I want a good metering powder for my 9mm and was hoping ths 230p would work.

You are welcome. There is data for Win 230 in Hornady Vol II but don't know difference between 230 and 230P, from the data shown it looks like Win 230 is faster by a good bit, max load with 125 Horn HP is 3.8 grs

That's an old, long discontinued and VERY FAST powder! Be very careful with it. And I can't remember, but it seems like it's one that when used in too large a charge, tends to increase pressures at a very fast rate. I'd start with loads listed for H. Clays if you don't have any old manuals for it, and let your chorongraph tell you when to stop - that, and estraction/ejection patterns. It can be used, yes, but with ANY really fast burning powder, a bit of extra caution would be indicated, IMO. Hodgdon's Clays level loads ought to be in the vicinity, and should keep you out of trouble with it.

I got 5 lbs. of 230P from an old reloader several years ago and it was excellent in .45ACP . Never loaded 9's though.
