Larry, are you using the XCB bullet in your Garand? What ranges?

Mine seems to be as accurate as I can shoot with open sights. Just wondered what ranges you shoot with it.

No, I prefer the heavier 311/314299 in the M1 as velocity is easily kept in the 1850 - 1950 fps range with 100% reliable functioning. The 311466 (155 gr) and the 30 XCB (164 gr) require to high a velocity [usually 2000 fps or above] to get 100% reliable functioning with the M1. They are just too light for the job in the M1.

I do shoot the 30 XCB with excellent accuracy in my M1903A1 match rifle but with 2400 powder and keeping the velocity around 1900 fps.

My hat is off to you. For what it is worth, QuickLoad says this load should generate 2056 fps.

The quenched WW+2% tin will be fine. Your velocity is probably about 2100 fps.

I use 50-50 wheelweights and linotype, about 16 BHN, air cooled, not quenched, in my Garand.

For some reason I can get good cycling with the XCB at 1950fps (34.0gn imr4166). Will have to see if it still works when it gets colder this winter

I also shoot the ACC 31-210E (an Eagan clone), which does pretty good as well. ~1900fps also with 34.0gn 4166.

I am using 4895 at 34 grains and Varget at 35 with a,200 grain cast gas checked 311365 and 311299.Cycles fine and shoots well.

I use many of the same loads mentally above. However I use a .311” sizer.
FWIW, it’s not about the bore, but the chamber throats.
With a Lee .311” 200gr RNGC I use 36.5gr of H4895 to reach 2,050fps. M1with a Douglas XX match barrel from the ‘80’s (rebarreled Blue Sky import, set up as a match rifle) shoots at or better than 2moa. I’ve never tried my CMP Special with its Criterion barrel. But, it’s under 2moa with a match load, so I’d expect likewise with the cast. (Hornady 155gr Amax with 48.0gr H4895)
