The dial doesn't have a off position. The dial is a thermostat only.

The majority of the people that use them have PID controllers hooked up to them.
For my setup, my PID is powered from the control panel that handles the automation.
The control panel has a on/off switch.

Its very easy to use a DP contactor inline with the MC and then use a toggle switch to energize the contactor if you want to use the standard thermostat.

Also I am guessing you have a 220 pot cause its normally hard wired in.

You unplug it to turn it off.

    Hope this helps.

I also have a switch to turn mine off. When i had a dial on mine, i never moved it. When i had a good lead temperature, i never moved it.

Others that use a PID to control their pots set the thermostat a little higher than you want it to go, then run the PID through the power cord. This means if something was to go wrong with the PID, the pot can only get as hot as the thermostat is set, so it will never go flat out. It would be rare for it to go into this fault condition, but it is always possible.

Thanks for all your comments. I did install a switch. Maybe I'm old fashioned but for 1100.00 dollars you think they could put a switch on it.

One would think so hey? They may have issues of where to mount a switch to the pot, as you don't really want it at a heat source, naturally over time it will fail.
