    motor?????

My really old midway vibration tumbler motor died.
It just stopped and I can smell it burnt out.
No numbers or any markings on it.
Looks like a regular fan motor.
midway said to send it back for warranty repair, but the shipping is almost the price of a new one.
I could fit it into a large flat rate box if not for the tub hold down screw.
midway said if i cut the screw, it would void the warranty.
I hate the new midway. Used to buy a bunch before they changed.
Anyone know where i can find a replacement motor????

Five years ago RCBS had motors for $15.00. You can call them, and see if they still have them. The motors in the tumblers are usually exhaust or vent fan motors.

If it's the 1292 call midway, they had a recall on those and were replacing them for free, I had two replaced. See this recall info here, http://www.safety-recalls.org/cpsc-c...-98-98088.html

Pick the one that matches. They start at roughly $9.00, and go up from there. You could take the motor to a Home Depot, Lowes, or Ace Hardware.

I would have bought a motor for mine but the bowl was worn paper thin in a few spots. I sent mine back through UPS, I cut, folded and taped cardboard to make a custom fit and as small as I could make it. I think it cost me like $15 but that was some years ago.

Are you able to remove the screw?

Ask them if you can keep the bowl, and remove the threaded shaft.

Try a local electrical supply house that contractors purchase their supplies.

Been expecting my 22 year old 1292 to let the "magic Smoke" out one of these days, still runs. I went thru 4 of the Frankfort Arsenal junkers that Midway replaced the old 1292 with and said THWI and bought a Hornady. Best tumbler yet.

I went from the FA, to a Thumler. It's night and day. My FA motor is still working eight years later, but it keeps breaking bowls. I decided to build a base with a threaded stud so I can use regular tumbler bowls on it.

    It is a 1292.
I called that number. That's when they told me I made to pay for shipping to them.
Called them back (talked to another person), after I found the screw couldn't come off, to see if I could cut it off to ship it.
They said if i cut the screw off, warranty is voided.
Shipping would be around $40, best I can calculate from the USPS web site.
I can get a FA one here for around $50.

I tried to remove the screw, but it's molded in.

Home depot, lowes or Ace, here doesn't carry motors.
They don't carry lots of things they do in the states.

That is odd. I guess it's made to be non-serviceable.

Wrap it in bubble wrap, and tape. And send it like that. Shop around for the best shipping price. Don't forget about 3rd and 4th class mail.

You're welcome. You might pull the shaft on that motor, and look at it. I had one FA tumbler lock up. I pulled the shaft, and it had worn flats on it. I put it back in and lined the round sections up with the bearings and it worked again. It wouldn't fit back it the tumbler housing, but the motor worked. All it would have taken is some fitting and a little grinding, and it would be useable again.

Squeaky wheel gets the grease, it's a safety recall, danger of fire. Ask them what is the name and number of their attorney and their liability insurance, tell them you want to keep it on file in case it causes a fire, seeing how they won't pay for return shipping. Maybe that will light a fire under them. Could also always ask to speak with Larry Potterfield!
