400 degrees for 20 min. right???

So I preheat my toaster oven to 400(with thermometer)
Put tray of boolits in. Temp drops A LOT!
Do I just time 20min from then or do I let everything come back up to 400 before I start the clock for 20min?

You should be fine at 20 minutes after putting them in even with the drop.

I run mine up to 450 degrees for the pre heat. that way I wont be so far from 400 when I get the heat loss from opening the door.

If you line/ cover the bottom of the oven with heat retention media, I use ceramic BBQ briquettes, others use fire brick or metal plates. It will help retain the heat and let the oven recover faster after the door has been opened.

According to smoke "Still bake them at 400 degrees for 15 minutes in a preheated oven" on 05-08-2017

I do preheated at 15 minutes but preheated at 20 minutes should be no problem in a convection oven . Unconvection you MIGHT
Have some bases overcooked. Only you will be able to see or know this as each oven and conditions vary

I wait until the powder glazes over then start timing.

I have a Black and Decker convection toaster oven and just set at 400 and let it go 20 min . Works for me . I stay that way no matter how many batches I do.

    +1
put the tray in a cool oven (it will be warm for successive batches) and set timer for 20 minutes. In mine reaches 400º at 10 min mark, continue on for full 20. Works fine in all firearms (mid to mild loads--cowboy shooting)

I did a little study with my non-convection Black & Decker toaster oven. I found that at on mine at least 15 minutes of preheat without the bullets is a good idea. My oven overshoots the temp up to a little over 500 degrees from a cold start then it settles down and controls fairly well. YMMV. Here's a link to the thread where I posted the study, be sure to click on the chart so you can read it. The chart tells a lot. I'm surely not any expert on this by the way, just did the study for my own benefit.

I put a tray in a cold oven and once the powder starts to shine I start my 10 minute timer. Smokes powder. 400 degrees.

I pre-heat my convection oven to 400 degree and put a cold tray of PC'd boolits in for 20 minutes. Takes about 5 minutes for them to "gloss" and 15 more to "bake". It has worked fine for every batch I've done so far ...

I may have passed my "Best Before" date, but I haven't reached my "Expiry" date!

I've been waiting until the thermometer comes up to a full 400*, then timing at least 10 minutes of bake at 400. Is this total overkill? Is timing 10 minutes from 'glazed' stage sufficient? My old non-convection toaster is slow to get up to temp with 100 9mm bullets, even with firebricks.

If they pass the smash test and wipe test you should be fine. Run a patch and test if it fails cook longer. If your in the heat outside your cook time will or should be sorter in the summer and longer when its colder. Only think I have found with over cooking its the PC color may darken. Like Bright red to dull darker red.

I'm finding the smash test difficult to judge with Smokes clear, but darn if it ain't my favorite powder I've ever tried!

I like to bake for 15 minutes after they turn glossy. I'm usually doing more than one bake so my oven is always pre-heated.

For me a timer setting of no more than 25 minutes always works. I'll look in and see when they are glossy and there is always between 15 and about 18 minutes to go.
