    Husqvarna 1640 Rifle ?

Always wanted an 8x57 and found a site on net, Simpson's LTD, that has the 1640 & a model 640 in 8x57. I know nothing about Husqvarna's rifle. From reading the descriptions on the Model 640, they came in 98 actions and small ring size. The 1640 I believe is a commerical model and doesn't resemble either 640 action. Any advice would be helpful.
    Thanks

640 is a fn commercial action. 1640 is an improved small ring 96 with 98 features such as the third locking lug. I have a 640 from Simpson's in 9.3x62. Give them a call if you have questions. Good company. I have bought a lot from them.

    .

I had a couple of Husqvarna Small Ring Model 98 Mauser 1640's, labelled as S&W Model D (etc), and found them to be excellent/lightweight hunting rifles.

    While the 640 is a bit larger/heavier than the 1640, I don't think there's a wrong choice there.

I would go for it. The 8x57 is a great round and Huskies are top shelf.

Husqvarna's own actions like in the 1640 am much trimmer and lighter than are the FNs that they bought for some models, as are the rifles. Great actions, rifles, and quality.

I had a 1640 in 6.5x55 for nearly 40 years. Sold it recently to a young hunter to get him started the right way. Great rifle! A little on the light side, but they were meant to be carried a lot and shot a little. A 9.3x62 in the original configuration will certainly get your attention when shooting from prone position.
