    Got my first press

I picked up my first press yesterday at the gun show. It's a new Lee anniversary kit for $80. All I need now are dies and supplies and I'll finally be on my way to being a proper caster.

I think I'll start with 7.62x54r so I can get a load ready for deer season, but 10mm is also on the list after I buy a new barrel for my Glock.

Congratulations. Assuming you mean the Lee Anniversary Challenger Kit...you are on your way to becoming a proper RELOADER and that when time and dollars allow will lead you straight to the casting, which is something else all over again.
If it was easy, anybody could do it.

Don't buy all of these doomed to the addiction now posts. How deep you dive in and how much you spend is completely up to you.

Reloading in all its aspects is just a very good and productive avocation, not a 12 step candidate addiction.

But, I sure hope that my last order of casting stuff is there when I get home this evening.
The first purpose of the Second Amendment is too often overlooked, fostering a liberty of mind and action necessary in the people of a free republic.

I don't know how much money I save, how much I have "invested" but I do know I have sufficient ammo when I want it, tailored to be what will be suitable for the use intended. It isn't addictive so much as it's endless. Always more tools or supplies I could buy. Not addictive but I do sometimes melt something or prep some brass or size some bullets just "because", I guess it's not a lot different than my mom knitting. She did it because she enjoyed it as much as for the wearable item produced.

You might consider posting in the swapping and selling forum with WTB on the dies, or a mold. Often folks will have what you need just sitting around and be generous in the pricing to help you get started or to see the item go to a good home where it will get used and appreciated.

Nice price on the kit, press alone typically is more than that by a little.
Scrap.... because all the really pithy and emphatic four letter words were taken and we had to describe this source of casting material somehow so we added an "S" to what non casters and wives call what we collect.

Kind of hard to claim to love America while one is hating half the Americans that disagree with you. One nation indivisible requires work.

Welcome to the Hobby. Once the major equipment is there ( press powder measure, scales. ect) then swapping calibers is really easy and not near as expensive. A simple die set and shell holder may be all that's needed to go to another caliber. In some cases dies can be readjusted for the next caliber, 38/357, 44 spl/44 mag, 45-70/45-90. Another big plus is the old and hard to find ammo is now more available to you even. But you will spend for brass powder moulds bullets primers.
