    22 Nosler

I was thinking: if I had a 223 Remington caliber rifle barrel is there any reason why couldn't re-chamber it to 22 Nosler?
The rifle might turn out to be a single shot because of feeding/magazine box problems but the rebated rim of the cases would function with the 223 sized bolt face and COL would enable extraction.
Just assume that there's a valid reason for doing this.
    Your thoughts?

Feeding would be the biggest issue. 6.8spc mags with a bit of modification is what I have read.
A lot of folks, and I mean a lot look down their nose and say to just go with the 22-250. Well why not just go with the 224 Weatherby.
They are missing the point IMHO.
I have several 223 actions that are set for projects, along with larger bolt faced actions.
I see this as an interesting case. It has been met with the same reactions as the .284. Most comment are from folks that don't like change.

I am setting back waiting to see what Nosler does next, the .20 or the 6mm.

Nosler can't rest on its laurels, the firm is pretty small and has taken the initiative from some of the biggies; I'd bet on the 6mm, maybe the 6.5 in a short action case that would offer an advantage for a very lightweight rifle.

will it work, yes it should. now for my opinion im a 223 and 22-250 guy. to me it would not be worth the expense to split the difference. maybe down the road if the 22 nosler catches on the cost of brass, etc will come down. til then its a big no from me. if you were just starting out and didnt already have a 223 or 22-250, it truly may be worthy of consideration.

You cannot re-chamber a 223 barrel to 22 Nosler. However, that said, if you set back the 223 barrel around 0.190", then you can rechamber. Base to shoulder dimension on the 22 Nosler is shorter than the 223, so the reason for the setback of the barrel.

Matter of fact, I just did that to a 223 barrel on Tuesday. Working up loads now.

I was pondering a what if idea the other day. The Military has been pounding it's head against the wall looking at more effective rounds than the 5.56 62 gr. The what if could be a 77 or so gr. in the 22 Nosler at nearly the same speed as a 62 in the 5.56 in the same platform..... Sometimes it's best to just ignore the good idea fairy

For long range flat shooting I am a fan of the 6.5 Grendel in AR-15's...

My 6.5 Creedmoor is pretty good at long distance, but alas, she's a bolt gun. (RPR)
