Question Composition of National Lead Solder 890

    Heh all:

I did some searching and even found the product catalog circa 1947 from national lead but could not find any data on composition of the bars. They are one pound bars with national lead company and the dutch boy logo cast into it. Each end has an 890 cast into an oval on it.

Any ideas what the composition is? I found 111,222,333.......up to 999 but nothing on 890.

    Thanks, Steven

It's should be a low grade of wiping solder somewhere about 65-70% & 30%-35% tin. prob. 33% but I figure all that at 60/40 you can always add a little more if your bullets aren't filling out. What I did do was take a number punch and stamped the alloy into them like 60/40 or 50/50.

Thanks for the reply. Sounds good to call it 40% and be done. Just making sure it wasn't something wired.
    Thanks again.
