Owned a marlin 1894 for years with the same 1:38 rot and it was fine for bullets between 180 - 265 grains.
One of my most accurate loads was with the 265 grain hornady fp and h110/w296 powder even though the bullet was designed for the 444 marlin.
The 240 grain factory ammo is fine for deer at the relatively short ranges the firearm was designed for.
Just bought a henry big boy all-weather in 44 mag myself.
Stick with bullets between 180-265 grains and you'll be fine with that rifle.

Just seen this photo and caption on social media. It reminded me of this thread. It's too bad Mr Hoshino didn't grab his levergun, instead of that Nikon.

Michio Hoshino, a photographer well known for his photographs of dangerous wildlife, was mauled to death by a bear inside of his tent while on a shoot in 1996. Discovered on his camera, this is the last photo Michio would ever take.

Got 44mag and 4570 on my licence hope henry has the 1:16 twist here as I like to shoot heavy for caliber boolits in my rifles.leaning towards the 44 as it's more common here and brass is much cheaper.

Sadly, their website was incorrect, the twist rate is 1:38

This picture is a well-known hoax, but makes a good story:
