Reactive targets

I love reactive targets. From shooting nilla wafers to golf balls to steel. It's the most enjoyable to me.

I'd like to rig up some type of cheap reactive target to use at 50-100 yards for 22 pistol and further 200-500 steel for rifle.

What does everyone recommend as far as steel type, size. Shape, design, etc.

Try walking the train tracks and see if there are any of the plates that go between the rail and the cross tie. These are heavy and take a lot to move them so might do well on the rifle range. Might try spikes for the .22's.

I'm with you on the golf balls. They tend to take flight when hit. Bowling pins are fun also.

I like to shoot air rifles. also have a few oak trees about. Took board drilled holes to set them in. then just pick them off.

i use shootingtargets7 ar500 gongs hung off shepard's hooks.



for long range use, i make my own paper reactive target faces using large neon green/yellow poster board - clear tape over the poster board, sprayed with matte black paint, works just great and easy to see with a cheap spotting scope at 200 to 300 yards.

Not allowed any steel targets at the range I belong to, so I use clay targets up to 100 and balloons at 200 and 300 yards. They come in different sizes, but if I want smaller targets, I just inflate them part way. I strung clips on a piece of cord and attach the balloons to them, then stretch it across the target boards.

For distances I don't want to walk back and forth to reset, I built these.

Balloons also make for decent targets, cheap, can be made any size and not too much mess to pick up.

I use a dueling tree for pistol practice. No need to reset as targets swing to other side when hit.

It is a blast to shoot with another person. First one to get all the targets to one side wins.
