    Airsoft BB's Stick in HP

I was powder coating cast boolits for 45 ACP by using black airsoft BB's and when I opened the lid I found BB's had stuck inside the hollow points. I had to use two sets of needle nosed pliers to get them out and leave the powder relatively intact. I use an NOE 453-220-RF RG2 PB Mold using the large hollow point pins to cast the bullets. I'm going to change the mold to the shallow hollow point pins. I don't think the Airsoft BB's will stick inside the shallow hole.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this before. FWIW, it may be interesting for those with large hollow point molds.

Just found the same thing this weekend when powder coating some 453-230 w lg hp. Have to order a set of the .20 pins.

Try coating without the BB's, they aren't always needed. Just make sure you knock off the excess powder.
If that doesn't work -- try another powder
    or mix in some clear
OR put the boolits and powder in double zip lock bags (or #5 containers taped shut) in your vibratory tumbler for 10 min.

Called Noe and smaller pins won't fit the mold since it is already bored to .250. Only option is to order a set of blank pins and having a machine shop turn them down. Guess I'll try no bb's first and see how they coat.

Here is a picture of the large hollow point pin next to the shallow pin. These pins were supplied with a NOE 453-220-RF PB mold. These pins are also shown in the pictures of hollow point molds on NOE's website. I believe they call them cup point pins. I took a quick measurement with a dial caliper and the diameter measures approx. .255 in. Also, I corrected my original post as the mold is an NOE 453-220-RF RG2 PB.

Just found out myself the other day on the 44 cal devistator. Kinda like the way it looks and plan on glueing a few in place and testing them. I think it will act like a ballistic tip.

Trplebeards, looks like turning lemons into lemonade. It would be interesting to see how they perform.
