    deer feeder

Need some recommendations for a good deer feeder for bow season. Like to keep price $150 and on down. Using corn, and other deer feed mixtures. Needs to be programmable as to feed times. I will have a long drive at least once a week to get to feeder to refill.

I was given one like this.
The wiring had been squirrel eaten.
After rewiring, it has served well.
6 daily timers. Uses a lantern battery or external power.

Friend, that is exactly the one I had in mind.

My son-in-law has this type. Only problem he has is with black bears. Sometimes they knock it over. We have a lot of pesky bears.

My brother uses the hanging type feeders, and the bears even get to them. He had to run a steel cable from tree to tree to help the problem. A couple of pieces of plastic pvc pipe on the cable keep the 'coons and squirrels off the feeder.

I like the feeder you have posted.

    Harsh!

Haven't seen any bears but can see how they'd be a serious pest.
I didn't get a manual with my gift but instructions were on the inside cover.
    Was easy to understand/program.
2 20 lb bags of "flavored" corn came half way up the reservoir.
If you remember to tell the feeder how much feed you put in, it'll estimate how many days of feeding you have left based on your set timers.
Not that the math is hard, but it is handy at a glance.

    Good luck!

Ken, I agree with WebMonkey....moultrie seems to work the best for the least dollars....Paul

I received my Moultrie Elite tripod feeder. Seems like a good set-up. Now I have been on YouTube getting ideas on how to prevent damage from 'coons and squirrels.

I like the idea of Crisco mixed with red pepper and rubbed on the legs. Supposedly makes them too slick to climb, and when critters lick the Crisco from their paws, they get a nasty taste.

    Any other ideas?
