I can think of more productive and worthwhile ways to spend my money.

Someday there will be an unusual yard sale, garage sale, rummage sale, tag sale... and maybe even a white elephant sale.

    1) Having more money than you know what to do with.
    2) Greed!!!

There is some nice art work there. If the person have the money to do that he wants good for him. I know it is not for every one.

Yep. To me that's an absolute waste of money, but to each, their own. Looking at it another way though, he keeps folks employed. The taxidermist for sure, the guy that built the display, the gun shop he frequented, the guy that built the gun vault, the PHs in Africa, etc. He's keeping families fed, good enough for me.

It's an impressive monument to ego. Someday the guns will end up in an auction and the moth eaten heads and hides will end up in a dumpster, and that will be that. Maybe the building can be turned into a dance hall or something useful.

That...or it could be reminders of great hunts and time spent with family and friends, afield.

Of course, this is in contrast to your negative, cynical and probably envious view.

I am envious. If I had access to one tenth his resources, I would spend a good part of it on the children in my town who don't have decent shoes or clothes to wear, and I suspect in some cases, adequate food to eat. I wouldn't spend it on a cathedral to glorify my ego which will cease to exist the moment I start turning back into dirt, as we all will. "Dust thou art and unto dust thou shalt return."

I know it's easy to disparage others with a taste for things like this, and most especially when they have such an abundance of these type things. It's not my taste. I've never had a deer I've shot mounted. None just seemed to be what I wanted. (shrug) But that is one BEAUTIFUL display of some very beautiful animals, and I'm sure when he's alone there, maybe with a little drink to sip on, he relives each and every hunt in his mind. I don't know the guy and don't know if this is the case, or if maybe it IS ego and show-offishness that motivates him, but I know it's far from assured that this is the case. Whatever his motivation, he and his designer sure have come up with a wonderful display of some wondrous animals. For that, at minimum, he has my respect. We have folks like Rembrandt and Michelangelo who did what they did for no other reason than to make something beautiful, in hopes that the beauty would give their work meaning. Why not do the same with wildlife, that otherwise, would likely be mostly buried except for the meat?

So while I have no idea what his motivation was, I'll enjoy the beauty of this display just the same. But that's just me, of course. We have way too little beauty and goodness in our lives today. Why not show the real beauty of our wildlife in this manner?

Well, when you do these noble things...be sure to post a thread...and we will enjoy it with you.

But, it is certainly unbecoming to belittle others because you would do something different were you in their position.

Also, there is a very good chance that the meat from most of these animals did go to feed folks in need.
