Whatcha gonna stuff in there for powder, and how much? Old Elmer would say 22g of 2400, but most folks today, including the Alliant folks, say that 22g is too much. I agree. Personally I prefer 18 to 19g. That gives 1125 to 1200 fps in many of my .44's.

    I've been using 21 of 2400 with S&B primers.
That runs around 1225 in my 4 inch MG.

1,225 fps in a m29? That must kick!!. when shooting my 29's (4" and 6") I load to 950 - 1,000 fps tops. Full blown loads only for the Ruger SBH and Marlin 1894.

That's what it chronographs. Recoil is around the factory ammo recoil.

2400's chemistry was changed years ago to make it cleaner burning. Not coincidentally, Alliant's powder charge for a 44/250 SWC dropped from 22gr to 20 gr.

That is Speers data. Do you have any more proof that it has changed. Did you read Larry Gibsons write up on 2400 in the stickies when he tested 2400 with an Ohler M43.

BTW, I didn't start this thread as a loading data thread. I have loading books and a chrono. I happen to have some older Hercules 2400 that was manufactured in the mid '80's. Load for load it is well within normal allowances for current 2400 velocitywise.
Are pressures the same, probably not but not so you can tell on the cases. Pressures and velocities with current 2400 will vary from lot to lot.
If I thought 21 gr was dangerous I would quit using that weight immediately.
Is it rougher on the gun than say 20, yes. 20 is rougher than 19 and 19 is rougher than 18. Not shooting the gun would be even easier on the gun.
See where this leads on down the road?
Just showing pic of some pretty bullets is all.
