    SR 4756 Powder Uses

I recently scored some SR 4756 powder. I did an Advanced Search to see what load data may be available on this site. Got about 41 pages that contain the "SR 4756" text. It took a while to go through them. This is what I think I understand about the powder.

It has a slower burn rate than Unique and a faster burn rate than Herco. I should be able to use data slightly less than Herco loads and not be overly concerned about chamber pressures. First uses will be in 30-06, 308 Win, 6.5 Carcano and 6.5 Swede. Loads will be from moderate to light since I want to produce loads for kids to enjoy. Not a lot of data on light loads was found. Probably will not exceed 1200-1300 fps; depending on where I find some accuracy.

Anyone see any concerns that I need to be aware of? Thanks in advance for any comments.

Not sure on how it will work in rifle cases as the fill ratio will be low

I have used it in cast 357 mag and a few others

look for IMR data around 2007 and there could be some online data

It was the GREATEST powder made for making "Specials" into Magnums... I've never seen rifle data...

My favorite powder for .38 Special when making .38-44 loads, .38 Super high performance loads, .45 Colt self-defense loads...

Hope they hung whoever came up with the idea of dropping that powder.

Lyman 3rd edition Casthas data for SR4756 in rifles. Specifically, 30-06, but there are others.

Generally, it stays with lighter boolits for cartridge. No heavyweights.

I've been using it for more than 40 years in .30-06. Recently started using it in 7.65x53mm (10g, 175g cast bullet) and .25-20 WCF.

    Have had no issues.

Yes, there is quite a bit of load data for both the 30-06 and 308 Win. I think I have enough data to work with on those two calibers. Now to find some data or correlation to the 6.5s.

Seems like 4756 also has a flash supressant in it, too.

Personally, I have used it with 4# Buckshot loads for 12ga with great results. I've also heard it can be used in various pistol calibers. I only have a little under a pound left, so I use it for the shotgun when I load for it.

I have read somewhere that it is the perfect .32-20 revolver powder.

I've used it for fast 1230 fps 1oz 2-3/4" 20 ga pheasant loads since 1970. Also in .44 mag and .357. I'm now saving the last 2#s I have for the shotgun loads.

And now for something completely different,

There are multiple 16 gauge loads listed for 4756.

    Just sayin'.

Great shotgun powder. I wish the mutton heads still made it.
