    .277 mold suggestions

    Hello all,

Hoping I might get someone's advice on a .277 caliber mold around 140gn. I'm not sure it is the best for cast hunting but I'd give it a try. Anyone use a cast in .277 of any weight?

Thanks for the suggestions or hunting experience shared.

Is this for a .270? Most molds for .270 are closer to .280 in diameter. I have an Ideal 280412 that casts a 134gr RN but I have to powder coat it as the nose is too small as cast to get good accuracy. It shot well in my 6.8 SPC, haven't tried it in my .270 Encore Pistol yet.

So, I now notice, those molds are not 130-140gn. I've been reading about the LBT molds in .270 and they look great. Anyone have any experience with any .270 mold from LBT?

My 280473 is from 1981-1982. It casts .283 with wheel weights and did quite well in a 7-08.

My 280473 drops right at 130gr using COWW with a little tin added.

Hey all, thanks so much for the info and links. How fast are you pushing the 280473?

I have both of the lbt moulds for .270 Veral makes really good moulds, I haven't used them in years so can't be of much help as to how well they work, but I don't keep moulds that don't do as a want so that should tell you something. Sorry can't be of more help other than one is 120 grain and the other is 140 grain.

I shoot all cast in my M77, I have six or seven molds ranging from 108 grains to 150 grains.

The most accurate I found so far is my H&G #69. @ 150 grains checked - sized to .280, I have lucked out and grouped 5 shots in in less than 5/8" @ 100 yards.

    PM me ....

    Thanks

Again, thanks to all! I have had great luck with 140gn Nosler BT and Accubonds out of two rifles with much better accuracy and POA/POI at hunting ranges. I am certainly not stuck on the 140gn weight but all the testing I've done with traditional 130gn-150gn options showed it to be best. I'll guess cast will be different but I thought I should start from a place of success...140gn.

Unless someone has more info or experience to guide me differently.

Wanted to thank a poster here for sending me some of their stock to try! So very cool to have such good folks to converse with and share this love for cast!

I've been fooling with a 1960's Mannlicher Schoenauer Carbine in 270 the last few months . Bought an RCBS 27-150GC mold , where it'll be used 75 yards at a deer will be about the extent of it . I ended up going with an alloy of 50/50 WW and Lino pushed with SR4759 or XMP5744 . I'm not 100% finished yet but I think I'm in the ballpark for deer inside 100 yards .

What size 150gn bullet does it drop, 6pt-sika?

shdwlkr, did you do a bore cast measurement as suggested on Veral's site?

I contacted Veral and we came to the right size for the .270 I had, not sure what all we did but I think they are.279 in diameter if memory serves. I have not seen them in years due to most of my stuff being in storage for years. Just now begining to find stuff I thought I had lost years ago. Divorce sucks and messes with a guys stuff big time.
