38 Special and 9mm Powder Selection

My wife has a Charter Arms Pink Lady (2" bbl) 38 special revolver and a Sig P938 (3" bbl) 9mm semi-auto that I will be reloading (range loads) for and will use a Hornady powder measure.

Powder choices available locally are: Bullseye, Unque, Power Pistol and HS-6

Powder Coated Cast Bullets: 9mm and 38 Special - NOE 130gr RN and Lee 105 SWC

Never used any of the aforementioned powders so thought I would ask which might be the best application for both calibers (efficient and clean) ?

Bullseye should work just fine. Just pay attention with the 38 Special because Bullseye doesn't take up much room in the case.

    Good luck!

I know as I used titegroup (not in the 9mm) but it's not avaiable.

    Thanks,

If your used to loading Titegroup, you won't have any problems with Bullseye.

If it were me, I'd be grabbing a bottle of Unique.

Works in just about everything, and good case fill.

I have used Bullseye in both 9mm and 38 special with excellent results. I have no experience with your powder measure, but Bullseye runs well in every measure I have used.
I have used Titegroup in both cartridges as well but I don't load on a progressive press.

Out of those 4 powders, I'd go with Bullseye. Should meter fine, all the time.

Another person in the I like Titegroup for 38 camp but I use Unique too. Both work well with PC and sized cast in revolvers. My 8# jug as "stash" for pistol is Unique.
I think that Unique burning clean might benefit from a good crimp to help increase the pressure. I have a friend that reloads for 9mm and uses a Reloader powder as I recall. Really likes it. Don't know which one.

I recall some discussion that Titegroup deteriorated PC on base over time if bullets stored nose down. I turn the box upside down, so it is nose up and don't stash a large quantity. The zip lock bags of bulk plinking ammo are all Unique.
Scrap.... because all the really pithy and emphatic four letter words were taken and we had to describe this source of casting material somehow so we added an "S" to what non casters and wives call what we collect.

Kind of hard to claim to love America while one is hating half the Americans that disagree with you. One nation indivisible requires work.

    Bullseye.
You can miss fast & you can miss a lot, but only hits count.

Of those 4 powders I would also go with Bullseye.

if it were my $$$ I'd go with bullseye, but that's just cause I think it flows better through my powder measure than unique. No experience with Power Pistol and HS-6 in those calibers.
My feedback page if you feel inclined to add:

For 38 SPL and 9mm, I buy Unique in 8 pounders and Bullseye in only 1 pound canisters. Tells you which one I prefer....lot easier to double charge with Bullseye. Bullesye is more economical.....significantly more shots per pound.

First off, thanks for the replies. About time I made it there, Bullseye and HS-6 were gone so I bought two one pound containers of Power Pistol and two one pound containers of Unique.

I also bought four one pound containers of blue dot and one four pound container of steel for buckshot loads.

    I use longshot in my M&P 9 at 1150fps in 130gr.

Just too much for my wife in her light weight guns and longshot doesn't do well with light charges.

Time to go back casting as break time is over
