Where have you been Hickory?

Well, it has been expensive flying back and forth to Australia, even though I really like the country, it cost too much money to go there.
While I've never been to Hawaii, it seemed to be a good half way point between the swamp and Brisbane, Australia.

And my son has a loose foot and won't die happy until he has seen it all, is, or should I say has left for Hong Kong right after saying good bye to him in Honolulu.

But this is a few pictures of where we were last week.

After this pictures I retired to the bed to get a nap.


After being rudely awaken after an hour we went shopping at a local Farmers Market. Then out to eat.


I forget the name of the fish but it was excellent.


This is my son and daughter-in-law before the meal.

Then back to the condo for a much needed sleep.

The next day we left to go to Hana on the North side of Maui.
The mountain road was a narrow two lane freshly paved that often turned into a one lane at bridges and curves. The speed limit never exceeded 35 mph and was most of the time posted at 15 mph.

There was a little pull-off place to eat along the road and we stopped for lunch. The meal was great and not very expensive compared to a set down restaurant.

We walked down to the rocky beach and the other three went in for a swim, I sat on a rock and watched the local wildlife.


There are a lot of feral chickens on Maui.


There are more pictures on my camera I'll post from the other beach.

I downloaded the pictures onto my computer but cannot up load them because the 'file is to big.'

After returning from Hana and before going back to the condo we bought some fish and shrimp for the community grill that the condo supplies.

The next morning we got up and flew to Honolulu and got a hotel room at Waikiki.

Forward guns.
Before boarding the ship there was a volunteer on deck who greeted us and handout information on the ship. I stopped and saluted him and asked permission to come aboard. He snapped to attention and returned my salute and said permission granted.
He touched my arm as I passed and said I was in the Navy and have volunteers doing this job for eleven years and I was the only person who ever asked permission to come aboard as is the procedure. Then he asked me if I had been in the Navy, it said no, but was in the Air Force. His only comment was,"Good."
