    A good 98 or modern commercial actions can handle .257 +p loads just fine. If more umph is wanted or needed, then you should go to something with more bullet weight. A 25-06 only beats the 257 by 70-100 yards, a 6.5-284 would be a noticeable step up in capability.

    I like the Roberts, have a barreled action for one. I consider it a 300 yard deer rifle, but I am only a 250 yard shooter. When I worked in Colorado, my foreman was near retirement age. He and his son hunted elk with 257's, said they had killed several. When I went elk hunting, I carried a 308 with 180 grain bullets.
