    Favorite "obsolete" cartridge?

    What's everyone's favorite "obsolete" cartridge(s)?

I've really enjoyed the 32 WCF (32/20) lately. Easy on powder. Easy on lead. Can find decent older specimens. Can shoot smokeless or holy black in it. Great round to plink with and brass is available from Starline.

My other fav is probably the 32 WS.

What is it with the 32s?

38-55 is my favorite though I have never had the pleasure of shooting or loading for a 32WCF.

50-70, first oddball cartridge I reloaded. Jumped from 308 as my first metallic cartridge to reload to the 50-70 as my second. Talk about a steep learning curve.

22 jet, I always wanted to barrel a Ruger 357 bolt gun in that caliber.

I have a number of older guns in obsolete and semi-obsolete calibres and like them all (that's why I bought them in the first place).

.22 WCF, .25-20 WCF, .25-35 WCF, .32-20 WCF, .32-40 WCF, .35 WCF, .38-55 WCF, .40-82 WCF, .40-90 Ballard 3", and .50-70 Govt., just to list a few. (But did you notice that there is a definite "WCF" trend?)

I may have passed my "Best Before" date, but I haven't reached my "Expiry" date!

    .45 ACP.

All the cool kids have gone to 9mm leaving only us obsolete old farts to keep the .45 ACP limping along

While I don't own either it would be .218 Bee or .22 Hornet.
    Semper Fi!

    Currently casting for .223, .308, .30-06, .30-40 Krag, 9mm, .38/.357, 10mm, 44 Mag and 45 ACP.

I agree with these two, and also .32/40.

.222 Remington is another. Those of us who love the .222 don't consider it obsolete, but lots of outspoken .223 fans do. "Why would you even consider a .222? It doesn't work as well in an AR-15! If you load to absolute max, you can get maybe 100 fps more out of the .223! If you run rifling that looks like a machine screw, you can shoot bullets (in .223) that approach the weight of .243 bullets, at only double the price of a .243 bullet! And you can't even get steel jacketed, steel cased Russian ammo in .222! Why would anyone want such an obsolete round?"

I'm having so much fun with the .358 Win I forget it's obsolete. I'm reminded it is when I see ammo for $50 for a box!

    Hi...
Not quite sure they really qualify as obsolete but I like 7x57 and .303British.
My son and I shoot them out of a couple of old WWII bolt action military rifles.
Probably run several hundred runs through each rifle every year.
Not quite like the volume we run through in .223 and .308, but in my opinion they aren't as much fun as the 7x57 and .303 British.

I've always thought a 50-70 or a .577 Snider would be the ultimate round for a H&R/NEF single shot.
