Doing well in a match is even better when you made the rifle!!!

On the 4th of June we had our monthly M/L match and it was a large turnout since the May match was rained out. I was shooting my new long rifle built from parts I ordered from Muzzle Loader's Builder Supply and it is the same parts as the first rifle I put together 6 years or so ago. 50 caliber, pillow ticking .490 round balls and 70 grains of Goex FFG powder. Was okay in the paper target and came in 2nd in the steel part of the match. Felt pretty darned proud and the new rifle got lots of great comments. Just makes a guy feel all warm and fuzzy, doesn't it?
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

Forget everything you know about loading jacketed bullets. This is a whole new ball game!

Here you go. The rifle is a 50 caliber with L&R lock and trigger, fancy maple stock and a 42 inch Colrain barrel. I dark blued the barrel, lock plate and trigger plate. I built one 5 or 6 years ago and it was browned so I went for a slightly different look. I also did some carving with my new air power carver as you can see.Click image for larger version.

Beautiful rifle! Nothing like the sense of accomplishment of building one and even better when you see how well it shoots! Congrats on your good match and I'm sure many more will follow! Thanks for sharing!
