Over powder wad question

If the wad to go over powder is larger than bore(enough to have slight fold) does that load need some wadding to go against boolit base to keep all things even and flat during flight out of barrel? I make my wads out of egg carton material that I dip in wax to stiffen up so I can drill out wad with out tearing up the paper. I get perfect circles nice and stiff every time but the wad is a wee bit bigger than bore size.

Don't really know, but I'd suspect the force of the expanding gases to flatten it pretty good. In muzzleloading, I prefer to use a slightly larger wool wad over the powder, and that seems to be good for what I do. I'd think it to be the same with cartridge loading. Best to just try it and see.

i use a cornell press mounted wad cutter, and .025" milk carton for wad material. there is no significant visual creasing of the wad edges as i push it down into a .45-2.1 case. when i was shooting lubed bullets, i'd add a pair of .002" newsprint wads to make sure the main wad would separate from the bullet base. i've never had a need for a lubed wad or sandwiched lube cookie, but those will probably benefit from the added newsprint wads to insure the greased main wad(s) don't go down range with the bullet.
