    need a new burner/fryer

can anyone recommend a good turkey fryer that's cheap, burns HOT and preferably pretty low to the ground? i remember one, think it said 100,000 btu's but i might be wrong. and i have a welder so if it needs re-inforcing i can do that, as long as it burns hot! thanks-Travis

I bought a jet type from Cajun Cooker a year ago that I have been happy with.

But it is not that low to the ground.

If you need it lower you may want to dig a hole, establish a good base for it. Remember to leave room for air to come in.

4 bricks in the bottom of a whole if leveled up and tamped solid into place should do the job.

I have one like jmort. It gives lots of heat to melt fast, but will also turn down low to just keep the lead melted.

yeah, I saw one like that, had the same kind of burner, but the frame was made from flat steel, and it was about 20-30 dollars less, not too worried about strength, although jmort's looks plenty strong, im just saying I have a welder and rebar so I could strengthen a cheaper one. but maybe I can somehow make enough money to get that one. j mort, how much weight have you put on it, looks like it could safely hold 150-200lbs, considering my old rusty one that's taller will hold all 180lbs of my weight.i hope to have enough juice to melt large batches pretty quick from solid to liquid. I like to do batches of 100lbs of alloy for consistency. right now I have 2 100lb batches that have to be redone ( see 'tin wont melt') in alloys and lead, I am going to cut batch 1&2 in half and switch halves so that they will be equal, that is after fixing the tin and bringing it up to 5% ( lyman #2 w/copper) I

If you are looking for a lot of heat , look for the words "Jet Burner". They are made to deliver a lot of heat . the King Kooker 12 inch Tripod Propane Jet Burner is rated at 105,000 btuh and will have a 20 gal pot of tap water boiling in about 10 minutes. It sits low to the ground and sells for about $50.00. We boil crabs, shrimp and crawfish on one.

Just to add my 2 cents, this is the one I got recently, last weekend I had a dutch oven on it with 160 lbs of alloy with no issues. Heats fast and is very simple. I bought mine as a "warehouse deal" as someone had returned it, although I saw nothing wrong with it. I only paid $44 for it. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001FTS32W...oding=UTF8&me= It's the Bayou Classic SP2.

The Bayou Classic SP2 is a double jet burner and rated at 210,000 btuh, commercial cooks use this one to get huge pots of water boiling when boiling crawfish for a crowd, It's a winner for sure !

It has certainly served it's purpose so far. I'd say the jet burner is an accurate term for it, when you really open it up that's exactly what it sounds like. But the flame is easily controlled, and the "jets" are simply brass pipe caps with a hole drilled in them. Most of the paint cooked off during it's first use, but hasn't rusted so far.

The cheapest I found with the strength to handle a 120# pot of lead was the fish fryer at Wal-Mart at $40 but it is not a jet burner. I don't recall the specific BTU output but I would guess it is less. On the other hand it can melt up large batches in a reasonable amount of time.

Might be worth taking apart your existing burner, blow it out with compressor, check for spider egg sacks etc. Inside the burner can get clogged by anything from mud dauber wasps to spiders. Soot too, that forms at the jet or falls into it from the pot. Might get a bit more mileage from your existing by application of wire brush & air compressor. My burner was almost all yellow and pretty useless. Turned out to be soot on the inside. Took burner apart, wire brushed, back in business.
Scrap.... because all the really pithy and emphatic four letter words were taken and we had to describe this source of casting material somehow so we added an "S" to what non casters and wives call what we collect.

You can find those burners online for around $12.00 I saw some at agri-supply for one. And they usually come with the orifice included.
Sent from my PC with a keyboard and camera on it with internet too.
