Just got new mold from Accurate

Is there a recommended prep procedure besides blasting it out with non chlorinated brake cleaner?

Also. Preheating. I would dip the edge of my Lee mold's in the melt. This mold from accurate is made of a different kind of aluminum than Lee molds. Is this a recommended procedure, or should I do something different? Hot plate perhaps?

I use a soft brush to scrub the mold cavities and all block surfaces with Palmolive dishwashing detergent, place blocks in a coffee can with enough water to cover, then bring to a boil and boil in detergent for 20 minutes. Then remove can from heat, rinse thoroughly in hot tap water and assemble.

Blocks will come out of the bath with a smooth, gray anodized finish. No smoking will be necesary.

Pre-heat blocks by dipping a corner in the melt and holding them there for 30 seconds. Alternate method is to use electric hot plate with ceramic plate over the Calrod coil and calibrate with 350 degree Tempilstik crayon on blocks.

What is the risk of warping the blocks by dipping them in the melt?

Not for aluminum. No warp risk, that is.

With properly stress relieved aluminum and dipping the corner only, NONE!

Tom runs all his molds through a ultrasonic to Clean the mold prior to shipping the only prep needed is to pre heat and you get keepers from the first drop I have used over 10 molds from Tom and have never needed to wash the mold this is for aluminum brass and iron molds. But as always do what you think is best
