    a second Swiss 1911

Today, before the muzzle loader shoot at the one club I belong to, one of the other participants asked me if I was interested in another Swiss 1911 rifle to go along with the one I had bought last year.
The tag that he had on it showed one price, which I felt was just a bit high, but when he said that I could have it, along with a box of factory ammo, for $200 less... Well, I said that I would take it. If it's anywhere near as accurate as the other, I will be extremely happy. Now to find room in the safe, that's another matter altogether. Now if only it had been a Karbine for that price.

This second one appears to be a conversion based on the 1896, given the grafted pistol grip and curved butt plate. The serial # puts it at a 1901 mfg., so it would be a Model 1896/11 Infantry Rifle.
The first one was made in 1918. Having problems uploading a pic, so this will have to suffice. A wide angle lens would be nice to have, or a short step ladder, in order to get a complete image. These 'short' barreled rifles take up some space!

The original stock on your 1901 was straight and later a "pistol grip" was mortised onto it. The 96/11's I have all have tighter grooves than the 1911s. I can't really explain this, when I slugged mine I thought I just got a fat one. Then I slugged 2 of them that a friend owns and both his were large too(.3095+). The 96/11 is the best of the lot..................

Took the 96/11 out yesterday and put some factory/hand loads thru it. Both were roughly a foot high, and I'm not finding a higher front blade available. So I'll probably take a piece of brass pin stock (.08") and epoxy it onto the existing blade. May not be 'authentic' but it'll sure help to pick up the sight. Eyes ain't what they used to be, age maybe?

I soft-soldered a piece of 1/16" brazing rod to mine and filed it flat on top. Easily removable if necessary or desired.
