Looks like some serious and esoteric reading. The link didn't work, but I found it at Barnes & Noble. Here's the link:

Having served with and shot against the Queen's soldiers on a few occasions, I've often wondered at the selection of some of their weapons, and they did too. The SAS troopers prefered the M16 in the 80s, and the infantry troopers loved their SLRs of the Cold War and hated the SA 85 (now the improved L85A2) which replaced it. Their MAG 58 GPM became our M240 GPM while their L86 LMG (based on the SA85) is now being replaced by the the L110 which like our M249 evolved from the Belgian Minimi light machine gun. The Browning Hipower was never questioned as a perfect choice for a handgun.

I guess like all armies, the Thin Red Line enjoyed some of the best and some of the worst firearm designs and the reasons for that should prove to be interesting reading.

Odd the link works for me - it's a large PDF - from Kings College London, UK archive - slow loading but free copy of the "book"

NOT the $36 sale to you from B&N - but purchase it if you wish.
