I have a Marlin in 30/30 and a win 32 sp. I'd like to run a plain based bullet in each one. Just for range and possibly a light hunting load. any suggestions? The Marlin is micro groove.
thx

I respectfully suggest that you pose your question in the "cast boolits" section of this forum's "guns & shooting" at the top of the home page.
Your question might receive wider readership, and likely a multitude of suggestions, there.

Now I lay me down to sleep

What equipment do you have and what budget for molds? Are you gonna cast them or just buy store bought boolits?
Don't worry about the micro groove. Ignore Lyman's 1600fps comments. Don't remember the number but I have a 150 gr flat nosed gas checked mold from Lyman that works great for 30-30. I use a Lee 8mm mold for the 32 WS. You don't need screeming velocity for either caliber at closer ranges. 1500-1700 will kill Bambi and friends at 100 yds or so with very little recoil. There are lots of good powders for these guns. I use Trailboss because I have plenty. Other powders will give yu a MV of less that 2000fps will work fine.I would look for something like H4198 or IMR 3031. Keep recoil down and these calibers are fuin to shoot.
This sectio has plenty of info for both. Marlins typically need hard alloy sized 311. Typically 150-185gr. long list of powders that work fine. Wait a bit, others will chime in. In the mean time, peruse a lot of the posts here.
Whatever!

Accurate mold for the 32 Special

The 321232 has worked well for me in the .32 Special. The limited shooting I've done with it worked well in a .32-40 as well.
There should be plenty of options out there for the .30-30.
i have the lee 170 flat point for .30-30. I use the lyman 165 gr. round nose lavern made for the 8m/m. it works well in .32 spl and .32-40 also. but both are gas check
The 155gr .30 cal bullets from Acme bullet perform well out of my microgroove Marlin using either Trailboss or Unique.

I am very happy with both the Lee 324175 and the Ideal 321437 in my 32 WS. I shoot them both plain based, with Ben's red.
