One of my great grandfathers was a sometimes deer hunter. He rode a horse completely across the next county and slept on the trail to get to his hunting spot 60 miles away.
How many of us could hang with an old man like that?

maybe it was gramma's cookin ??? just sayin..... I can whack deer out any window of the house, I sure would not ride 60 miles on horse for be cold and all that.

good thread I have learned a few things.

I have replaced my original transcription of the instruction sheet in my post (No.13) with a new, corrected copy. Seems, as will happen, that a couple of errors crept in.

Yeah sometimes being period correct is not all that desirable. Who really wants to live like the 1870s and 1880s? He would have had to ford the same crooked river 3 or 4 times each way to get to his hunting place.
