    Charge!!!

To fill up a large tray of boolits for baking, it usually takes as many as four go-'rounds with the powder and BB's in the #5 bowl. Too many boolits and you get coverage flaws. I've noticed that the coverage improves as you progress, so I've started PRE-CHARGING the mix by violently swirling the bowl for as much as a minute WITHOUT any boolits in it before the first shake. WOW! Excelsior!! Great coverage first time. The mix obviously loses any static charge it had when sitting for a few days on the shelf, and the more you shake the more it builds up. Pre-charging seems to be the way to go, at least for me. YMMV.

Thanks! I'll try it. Do you use airsoft BBs to increase the charge?

Very interesting. Gonna have to try this. I don't usually have coverage issues, but sometimes think it could be better. Thanks for the tip. - CASTER

Hey...a new development in Powder Coating! Whatta forum...

I've noticed this before, this loosing charge business when it sits for a week or two (thinking it might have been moisture)...and, have not realized that I sorta recharged it the first bowl full which was not acceptable, then when I put them back into the bowl and shook them again they did better...

    I'm smacking myself in the forehead...saying..."Duuuh!" . . .

Best PC tip I've seen in quite a while!

add me to the list of folks that are going to try this. I'm in the middle of PC a batch of 44 RN and this will be a great way to compare my old way with the new one.

just spit-balling here: wonder if sitting the bowl inside coils of wire and running DC current through it would do anything??

    Battery charger maybe??

I'll give that a try, too

I tried it this morning while raining outside...it worked like a champ. First try was some Copper and Brass PC that used to cover like crazy and the last couple of times I tried it, not so good at all. This time doing the 'Pre-Charge Swirl' did the trick...even the BB's were well coated.

I tried to post a couple pictures but the forum won't upload...anyone else having picture problems?

I have thought of doing this with a piece of pvc pipe. Charge the PVC pipe by rubbing it back and forth over wool yarn. Maybe connect the pipe to the try via an alligator clip wire allowing the dish to build up static. I will experiment with it when I get some PC. Might just be able to rub the dish on the yarn itself.

I tried it too and it does work. I got very good coverage with one coat. Guess I'll be doing that from now on. I need to try it next on HF red!

I try to remind myself how everyone seemed to think Gaston Glock was nuts when he polymerized pistol frames. Thanks for keeping the thinking cap on. I always try to assume there are better ways to do most things and I have just not thought of it yet.
