wonder if sitting the bowl inside coils of wire and running DC current through it would do anything?? Nope. Even tried pre-charging with the HV gun. Swirling is the tribo/motion effect, not HV charging : + charge vs - charge.
    Whatever!

OK, I gave this a try today. While it was raining outside. (I was in the garage.) Worked GREAT with some of Smokes red. I mean GREAT. I even did it in-between loading the container with bullets and the results were very good.

I also tried it with another color, but it was not as good. I think I have too much powder in that one. Have any of you run into this? Too much powder Vs. BBs and you get mediocre coverage?

HABCAN - I owe you one. Thanks!

Well, I tried precharging the pellets before introducing bullets into HF red. It did NOT help. I guess I'll just reserve that stuff for mixing to create additional colors.

There is an outfit here in Auburn that PC's just about anything brought to them...these guys have a 'walk-in oven' they push racks of things into.
They gave me this to try as they don't like it for large surfaces because of the coverage being variable in hue. IIRC'ly it was Sherman Williams.
It does have good coverage though, most of the mix is clear gloss and that stuff flows very well.

I guess I have never thought about it. I use a DIY tumbler and always start it running before I drop in the bullets. My main reason is I live in a sauna, the Gulf Coast of Texas is just that in the summer. To combat the high humidity I run the AC for a while and will turn on the tumbler just to help with the humidity. So I can see where this could also help in dryer places.

Pre-charging the powder makes my head spin. Wait - bowl (or a short section of PVC pipe) of powder on the end of a shaft in the elec. drill? Spin & dump into coating bowl? Maybe? Spinning builds up the charge, shaking gets the charged powder air born so it falls onto the boolits to coat.
    Whatever!

I just recently discovered this too.Playing around while waiting.Another thing I found was after I wash them in acetone,I place them on a towel to dry.To speed the drying process,I took a cheap harbor frieght light that uses a 100 watt bulb and secured it about a foot from the bullets. The heat from the light helped dry them faster plus warmed them up some.

Another thing I discovered,if I take a tray and lay it on top of the oven,it warms it and takes less time to reach temp when placed in the oven.A cold tray seems to suck all the heat for a few minutes.

I never thought about this but it makes sense. One I've found also, is when using Smokes powder (that's what i use others might work well too) that I don't need the BB's. Someone posted that it worked for them so I tried it. It works very good.

I guess it must work for some, but not for me.............it doesn't matter if the boolits are warmed: the powder adheres by electrostatic charge.

I tried a method I saw on youtube. I heated the boolits to around 140 degrees for 4 min. then put them in the bowl, gave them a 5 second shake and had perfect coverage.

Like I said, to each his own. It's more 'art' than 'science', and VERY 'individual'. I get a little cross with these guys that ask a thousand questions vs. reading the posts and then just TRYING something/ANYTHING (and reporting results).

Bump. With some of the newer color powders I've tried, the only way to get any of it to stick at all is to really vigorously 'pre-charge' before adding boolits. YMMV, it's an 'art', K?
